Need financial assistance for repairing your well or mitigating contaminants? Check out some of these state-specific resources.

Maine: Maine Housing’s Arsenic Abatement Program provides grants to eligible single-family homeowners or landlords with private well water that shows evidence of high levels of arsenic contamination.  Abatement is important to provide clean drinking water to households, especially those with children under 7 years of age or pregnant women who live or spend a considerable amount of time in the house.

Maine: Healthy Acadia works in Washington and Hancock county in Maine on a broad range of community health initiatives. Their “Healthy Homes” initiative provides education about maintaining a healthy home and connects residents with resources and support to improve the health of their homes. A healthy home includes contaminant-free well water.

Maine: Downeast Community Partners (a merger of Washington Hancock Community Agency and Child and Family Opportunities) brings community resources to citizens in Washington and Hancock counties, helping people achieve self-sufficiency and a better quality of life. Their home repair service is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Community Development Block Grant program. Eligible repairs include wells and water treatment systems.

Maine and New Hampshire: RCAP (Resources for Communities and People) Solutions is developing a private well assessment tool. Contacts in Maine and New Hampshire can provide more information about the Private Well Program, which will help well owners identify potential issues that may have adverse effect on the water quality and reliability of unregulated wells.

Maine and New Hampshire: The Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grants program, also known as the Section 504 Home Repair program, provides loans to very low income homeowners to repair, or grants to elderly very low income homeowners to improve, or modernize their homes.
