Digital Interactive Notebooks

What are Digital Interactive Notebooks?

Digital Interactive Notebooks (DIN) are resources for students to explore content while answering questions and engaging in activities that help teachers understand the extent of student learning. These Google Slides will connect students to the ESRI StoryMap while helping them engage in various aspects of the All About Arsenic project.

They can be:

1) assigned as a homework

2) used in class with students working in pairs or small groups

3) used as a whole class activity, guided by the teacher or students

Using the Digital Interactive Notebooks

Each DIN comes with a Teacher Version and a Student Version. Instructions to use:

  • Click on the link to open the Google Slide DIN file download if you want to use it as a PowerPoint presentation, or make a copy if you want to use it through Google Slides.
  • The Student Version is designed for students to fill out. The Teacher Version has an answer key.

Teacher Version

The Public Drinking Water Digital Interactive Notebook was initially developed by Delphine Demaisy and was adapted by Ludwin Moran Sosa at the College of the Atlantic for use by teachers and students. In addition, they created data activities for students that relate to public water at the links below. Students will use water quality data from samples collected from taps across a college campus to develop their analysis skills and understand how public water can become contaminated on its way from a treatment plant to the tap.

Private Well Water

This Digital Interactive Notebook has activities such as interacting with the periodic table, working with maps to consider amount of As concentration in well water throughout the state and connecting well water quality to health outcomes.

Arsenic and Public Policy

This Digital Interactive Notebook has activities such as learning about the legislative process, considering public vs domestic water supplies and brainstorm ideas for citizen engagement among other features.

Bioassay Ideas

This Digital Interactive Notebook can be used by teachers with their students to generate ideas for bioassays and give students the opportunity to explore some questions related to bioassays with different plant and animal models, including duckweed, lettuce seeds, Daphnia, planaria, annelids and Drosophila. It can be adapted and expanded for use with other plant or animal models. Feel free to grab slides to use for student assignments or assessments. It can also be used to walk students through the concept of doing bioassays to assess toxicity.
