Take the Survey
University of New England’s Center for Excellence in Aging and Health has joined with MDI Biological Laboratory in developing a survey for members of the Legacy Scholars program and other Mainers age 55+ who want to share information about their home drinking water. At the end of the survey, participants are invited to share their e-mail to receive information about testing their drinking water for arsenic and other heavy metals. Click the link below to begin the survey.
Test Your Drinking Water
When you complete the survey, you will receive an e-mail with information about receiving a test kit with instructions for taking a water sample and mailing it for analysis of arsenic and other heavy metals. The instructions are also included here. Click the link below.
Take Action
When you get your test results, you might find out that you have elevated levels of arsenic or other heavy metals. The first thing you will want to do is switch to bottled water. An easy next step would be to purchase a Zero Water Filter Pitcher, which has been shown to effectively remove arsenic from drinking water. Next, you can get assistance from Maine CDC.
